Beeswax vs paraffin: why we chose natural
Share
You cannot see the difference between a beeswax candle and a paraffin candle with the naked eye, but you can certainly smell it. Here is why, at PHLAME, we swear by beeswax alone.
Paraffin: a petroleum by-product
Paraffin is produced by refining petroleum. Cheap and ubiquitous, it is used in most mass-produced candles. But as it burns, it releases unwanted compounds (acrolein, benzene, toluene) that build up in the air of your home.
Beeswax: a considered choice
Our candles are poured from white beeswax, a 100% natural and renewable material. In practice, this means:
- A cleaner burn: no toxic emissions and no black soot.
- A longer life: beeswax burns far more slowly than paraffin.
- Healthier air: as it burns, beeswax naturally helps to purify the air around it.
- Faithful fragrance: it absorbs and releases the fragrances from Grasse that we use with real precision.
Our PHLAME craftsmanship
We spent a long time perfecting our candles. The white beeswax we select ensures an even melt pool, a steady burn and an optimal scent throw. It is the result of artisan know-how developed in our Cholet workshop.
A carefully chosen wick, too
Our wicks are made from European beech wood, lead-free and chemically untreated. They give a soft, steady flame with a gentle crackle, the signature of a wooden wick.
And what about the price?
Quality beeswax costs far more than industrial paraffin. But we believe it is a fair price for a candle that burns longer, more safely and with greater pleasure.
