How to choose the right scented candle for your home

Choosing a scented candle is never a trivial matter. It is almost a ritual, one that turns a space into a cosy haven and a moment into a memory. Here is how to find the perfect candle for your home.

1. Decide on the atmosphere you want to create

Every room has its own energy. The living room calls for enveloping scents (vanilla, precious woods, blond tobacco), the bedroom prefers softness (lavender, cotton flower, white musk), and the bathroom loves fresh notes (citrus, green tea, eucalyptus).

2. Match the size to the room

A 75 g candle is perfect for a bedroom or a study. For a living room or an open-plan space, choose the 150 g size or group several candles together. Our gift box collection offers pairings designed for every space.

3. Prioritise the quality of the wax

A natural wax burns more slowly and more cleanly than paraffin, which is derived from petroleum. At PHLAME, we have chosen white beeswax: a slow, clean burn, free from soot and petroleum derivatives, that releases fragrance with great finesse. 4. Check the wick

A natural wick, made of wood or untreated cotton, ensures a healthy burn. At PHLAME, we have chosen beech wood, lead-free and chemically untreated. Avoid wicks with a metal core (lead, zinc), which can release harmful particles.

A tip from our workshop

Before each use, trim the blackened part of the wick, leaving only about 5 mm. When lighting the candle for the first time, let it burn for at least 2 hours so that an even melt pool can form. That is the secret to a candle that lasts and fills the room with fragrance perfectly.
